Acton Answers: Why Visit a Class?

OCTOBER 6, 2014

We believe our case discussions speak for themselves, and we want interested students to experience what it would really be like to learn via the case method and develop the recognition pattern of an influential entrepreneur.

At Acton, the classroom and the learning that happens inside it are really the most important elements of our program, and as a result, one of the first questions we ask prospective students is, “when would you be able to visit a class?” While talking through the program and its methods might be informative, there’s really no substitute for experiencing the real thing.

A few more reasons why we think a class visit is a critical component of the Acton admissions process:

We want prospective students to experience our classroom energy.

For most people, the Socratic method is something they learned about in middle school world history but haven’t ever experienced in action (or really given much thought to). We believe our case discussions speak for themselves, and we want interested students to experience what it would really be like to learn via the case method and develop the recognition pattern of a capable entrepreneur.

We want them to have an opportunity to interact with current students.

Our students come from all over the country (and world). They have completely unique backgrounds with one defining characteristic—they each chose Acton, despite their differences. Visiting a class might mean getting the opportunity to have candid interactions with the men and women at the heart of Acton. We believe their experiences and opinions are invaluable to interested students, and they’ll definitely give you candid insights about the Acton experience.

We want the opportunity to get to know you better.

Acton is a boutique program with thirty to forty students per year. Because of that, we want to admit only the most exemplary candidates who are absolutely dedicated to becoming principled entrepreneurs. We want to give you as much exposure to Acton as possible, and vice versa. We want to make sure you’re on the right path before you decide to take it.

If you’re interested in Acton, sign-up to visit a class. Before you apply for the full program, we want you to know that it’s the right choice for you. Entrepreneurs can take risks, but they need to take the right ones. If you think Acton is right for you, then come check us out or contact us directly with your questions.
