Premat gives students the opportunity to stay in the market longer.

As you might already know, Acton is a 1-year accelerated MBA program. But did you know that the first semester of the program is online? Our unique practice of prematriculation offers students a host of benefits that they might not get in the classroom.

• Premat prepares students for Acton’s 100 hour work weeks. In many ways, premat is a steppingstone to the Acton classroom. Rather than throwing students into an overwhelming workload, students get to ease in with 20-25 hours of curriculum work a week. Many students choose to also continue working while enrolled in premat, and you can imagine how it prepares them for the prioritization and workload that ensues come January 5.
• Premat gives students the opportunity to stay in the market longer. As mentioned above, many students choose to continue working or running their companies while enrolled in premat. Students can do premat from anywhere and are able to apply lessons from the virtual program to real-life office challenges the very next day. Moreover, missing out on an entire year of work can be a financial burden, so the ability to work through the first half of the program is another way Acton helps cut down on the opportunity cost of attending the program.
• Premat connects students. Premat is a great way to build lasting connections between students. Since all students are paired with a “running partner” (a peer student going through the program), they have someone to hold them accountable and push them when the going gets rough. Students also take part in virtual study groups, as well as engaging with an alumni mentor throughout the premat course.
• Premat gives students the skills they’ll need to succeed in the classroom. From courses like Cash and Valuation and Operations, premat equips MBA students with a wealth of entrepreneurial tools in preparation for time in and beyond the classroom.
